The Word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

—————————————–

We who believe in Jesus now have the written word, Scriptures that bear witness of the very Word who was present in the beginning with God. This written word is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. We are told to handle accurately the word of truth, or, as the King James Bible says, “rightly divide the word of truth.” I believe it is incumbent upon us to approach the word with humble reverence before God.

Paul said all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, and able to give us wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. The Scriptures contain the mystery of God, a mystery that cannot be learned by studying alone, but is learned by revelations from the Holy Spirit. And this is accomplished only in the humble and reverent heart and mind.

If we approach the word of God with reverence and humility, and without any preconceived ideas, we will find ourselves being fed true manna, the true bread of life which comes down out of heaven. By denying self and keeping it in its proper place, God is able, through our faith in Jesus, to commune with us through the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth.

“You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life,” John 5:39, 40.

The Scriptures bear witness of Jesus. We, too, will bear witness of Jesus as we allow the Lord our God unrestricted access to our hearts and minds, and partake of the true manna, the bread of life; that is, the living Word who was with God, and who was God; the Alpha and the Omega, who is and who was and who is to come.

Please weigh everything I say on the scales of God’s holy word.
