Those who say Christians cannot cease from sin are selling Jesus short, implying that He is an imperfect Savior. For they say that all He can do is forgive sins by the blood of His cross, and thereby pave a way to heaven for us by His blood alone. They say we can just keep sinning and sin our way into heaven because Jesus shed His blood for us. Dear ones, I say to you now, “Jesus came not only to forgive our sins, but to deliver us from them as well.”
But what did Jesus say? “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord , Lord ,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, buthe who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter,” Matthew 7:21.
Listen to Peter, “Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, butfor the will of God,” 1 Peter 4:1, 2.
What about what John said in Revelation 14:12, “Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.”
Hear what Paul said in Romans 6:6-7, “…knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.” In verses 17-18 he says, “But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”
According to these Scriptures, there is only one way to be freed from the carnal and sinful nature, and that is to believe in the Son of God, that He is the Savior of your spirit, mind, soul and body and offer all four to Him as a living sacrifice, as vessels of righteousness. Our body of sin was crucified with Him, resulting in our release from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and of death. Have faith in Jesus; He is a complete Savior; and we are saved to the uttermost; we need only keep the faith and persevere.
