Finding God’s Will

Why do people find it hard to understand God’s will?

In Colossians 1:9–11 Paul wrote,

9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it [their love in the Spirit], we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

10 so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good deed and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience…

People find it hard to understand God’s will because it is opposite of theirs. Most people want to be strengthened with all power so they can work miracles and healings and have control over the devil. They want to speak their way out of sufferings and temptations, etc. God wants them to use the strength He has given them to endure the sufferings and temptations in order that they may attain steadfastness and patience.

Most people come to Jesus expecting to find a magic wand; Jesus instead leads them through sufferings and temptations that they may learn to obey the Father, as He did, and walk in a manner worthy of Him.

Do you want to know the will of God? Then deny yourself, take up your cross and follow the Shepherd; do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God.
